A wonderful structure high above the abyss

Charming mountain hut in the Maderanertal at 2032 m altitude.

The Salbithütte is a Swiss Alpine Club (SAC) mountain hut located at 2,105 metres above sea level in the Göscheneralptal in the canton of Uri. Built in 1931 and subsequently expanded, it offers 58 beds and is open from mid-June to mid-October. The hut is an ideal starting point for hikers and mountaineers, thanks to the sharp ridges, mighty towers and granite slabs around the Salbitschijen. A notable attraction is the Salbitbrücke, a 90-metre-long suspension bridge, which connects the Salbithütte to the Voralphütte, offering a unique experience for experienced hikers and those free from vertigo.

The Windgällenhütte, located at 2,032 m in the picturesque Maderanertal, offers 60 beds in nine bright rooms, each with 4-15 beds equipped with Nordic blankets and pillows. The facility is open from the beginning of June to mid-October, while in the winter period there is a winter room with 8 beds, accessible by telephone reservation. I'm not afraid of heights. But the Titlis Cliff Walk was definitely not a particular challenge. The suspension bridge is not very long and luckily it doesn't wobble that much, even when there are a lot of people on it. And the view isn't too deep or 'empty'. The view is very beautiful. I wouldn't want to do it on weekends/holidays. Too many people blocking the way to take photos/selfies.
