WINGS OVER BORKUM Kiekhütte Every year in October, when the first autumn winds sweep over Borkum, the spectacle of migratory birds begins. Oystercatchers, curlews, and shelducks dance over the salt marshes, while the melodies of songbirds waft through the sea buckthorn bushes. The Scandinavian Village is a wonderful place for a lunch break, coffee stop or an extensive dinner. From the terrace and inside the restaurant you have a beautiful view of the Paterswoldse Meer. The Scandinavian Village consists of the Elanderhûs restaurant and several wooden log cabins where you can spend the night, all in Scandinavian style.

The cul-de-sac leads quickly from the bike/hiking path to a hut from where the birds can be observed well.

The recreational value on Borkum is enormous. It is important that you get involved in the other, somewhat quieter life and that there is of course no area for marathon routes - unless you hike around the island twice. The total circumference of the island is 34 km. Mountains – you look for them in vain. There are plenty of dunes and the highest point is the Oldemanns Düne in the nature reserve at 19.30 m. The highest view dune that can be walked on, i.e. not located in the nature reserve, is the 18.70 m high north dune near the city center
