10월 16, 2025, Canal Tunnel by the Ebro
Hello Tzommer. I'll tell you that the canal tunnel can't be crossed on days with high water levels. On March 25, 2025, I was passing through there and had to turn around and look for another option...

The reservoir was built over a century ago from a small natural lake to provide irrigation water for agricultural land.

A wonderful resting place for pilgrims. Further ahead, you can see the Las Cañas reservoir, an important wetland for migratory birds.

9월 21, 2024, Church of San Bartolomé (Logroño)
The church was built in the 15th century and remodeled and completely decorated in the Baroque period. The tower façade was completed during this period. The main altar, which dates back to the first third of the 18th century, is noteworthy. There is an important collection of paintings hanging on the walls of the church and in the sacristy. Among them, the depiction of Saint Catherine of Alexandria, which is located in the presbytery, stands out.

9월 3, 2024, Wine Fountain – Bodegas Irache
After leaving Estella towards Los Arcos, on one of the walls of Bodegas Irache (the winery) that overlooks the Camino de Santiago, there is a fountain with two taps, one for water and the other for wine, completely free. On Saturdays and holidays or weekdays in the offices of Bodegas Irache, pilgrims can also get the souvenir stamp of the Wine Fountain on their credential in the Wine Museum. On the wineries page you can also see the live webcam from the fountain. This wine fountain has nothing to do with the tradition or history of the Camino de Santiago and although it may seem like a suggestive stop, it is purely a commercial gimmick. Attention. The wine sampling instructions are about one glass per person. I believe that each day there is a certain number of free liters... so it is not unlimited. Cheers

A city with narrow streets, high church towers, old walls and lots of atmosphere. In front of the city church is the gravestone for Cesare Borgia... a story that you should read... it ended here.

A curiosity on the Camino that you should take with you, but not too late in the day, otherwise you'll run out of wine :-) Stamps are available in the bodega next door! (right around the building into the courtyard)

6월 30, 2024, Church of San Bartolomé (Logroño)
The oldest church in Logrono with a very delicately designed entrance portal. The interior is rather simple and made of raw stone, but for once it looks all the more beautiful and therefore soothing.

6월 24, 2024, Church of San Bartolomé (Logroño)
The Church of San Bartolomé (Spanish Iglesia de San Bartolomé) is the oldest church in Logroño, Spain. Its construction dates from the 12th century, so it partially preserves the Romanesque style in the head and the first part of the tower, and continued in the 13th century with the Gothic development, with the magnificent arched portal, which contains some Romanesque sculptures that tell the life of Saint Bartholomew and other biblical passages. It has been a listed building since 1866. The Church of San Bartholomé is considered landmark No. 9 on the Way of Saint James, a World Heritage Site. It is 612 km from Santiago de Compostela. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Church_of_San_Bartolom%C3%A9_(Logro%C3%B1o)

On stage 8 of the classic Way of St. James, you start in the morning in Logroño and come straight to this beautiful place at the beginning of the stage: ducks swim on the reservoir and squirrels greet visitors. A truly magical place.

6월 24, 2024, Stone Bridge of Logroño
The stone bridge is one of the four bridges that cross the Ebro in Logroño. It is also called the bridge of San Juan de Ortega. The current structure was built in 1884 after the previous bridge collapsed in 1871. As one of the city's symbols, the bridge, which is used to enter the town on the Way of St. James, can also be seen on its coat of arms. https://www.spain.info/de/highlights/steinbruecke/

5월 29, 2024, Parliament of La Rioja
The Parliament - legislative center of the Autonomous Community of La Rioja, of which Logrono is the capital - occupies the church and cloister of the ancient convent building. The building still retains its original structure despite the subsequent and important renovation works carried out during its use as a barracks, when it housed the tobacco factory, as well as after the fire that devastated the nave of the old church in 1944.

5월 26, 2024, Wine Fountain – Bodegas Irache
The story goes that the monks of the Irache Monastery received the pilgrims of the Camino de Santiago who came to the hospital with a glass of wine. The fountain has two taps, one for wine and the other for water, to quench thirst.

Great park for the people of Logroño. Beautifully laid out with a lake and lots of playgrounds. A recreational oasis not far from the city with lots of shade.

Rivers like the Ebro were a big challenge for pilgrims in the centuries before. That's why the Way of St. James always runs along traffic routes with bridges. The larger cities are always found where there are large bridges. The motorways and national roads now have their own paths. And that's a good thing.
