Hello everyone, Please note that the footbridge crossing the Rhône between Tournon and Tain is closed until November 28th due to ongoing construction. You must use the motorway bridge 500m away… it's much less pleasant.

The Marc Seguin Suspension Bridge in Tournon-sur-Rhône is a 19th-century engineering masterpiece and one of the oldest suspension bridges in Europe. A stroll over the Rhône offers impressive views of the river and the surrounding vineyards. Tournon's old town boasts charming alleyways, historic buildings, and a Renaissance palace. Wine lovers can sample local wines from the Cornas and Saint-Joseph regions. The combination of engineering, nature, and history makes this place an unforgettable experience. By the way, cycling is prohibited and police patrol the area!

Tournon-sur-Rhône Castle sits picturesquely above the Rhône River and offers magnificent views of the Hermitage vineyards. Its origins date back to the 10th century, making a visit a journey through history. Inside, the museum showcases regional art, archaeology, and maritime history. The contrast between the medieval fortress and elegant Renaissance architecture is particularly charming. A stroll through the old town and across the suspension bridge to Tain-l'Hermitage perfectly rounds off the visit.

The Condrieu suspension bridge spans the Rhône between the towns of Condrieu in the Rhône department and Les Roches-de-Condrieu in the Isère department. The suspension bridge consists of two spans separated by a central concrete pylon forming an arch, in which the metal suspension cables are anchored. The entrance to the bridge is marked by two concrete pylons that receive the cables on the banks. These are connected to the deck by hangers. The deck, with its metal frame and reinforced concrete cover slab, carries a two-lane, two-way roadway, bordered by sidewalks lined with guardrails. The current Condrieu bridge is the second bridge to be built at this location; it replaces an earlier structure constructed in 1832 and declared to be in very poor condition in 1929. The 1934 work was barely completed when the bridge was closed in June 1940 due to an act of war. A cable ferry was put back into service to restore the river crossing. In spring 2025, due to structural weaknesses, the bridge was closed to traffic for several months while new cables were installed and reinforcement work was carried out.
