a dream route, wonderful scenery, and good asphalt

This route has quite a bit of traffic. On the downhill you can "swim" surpsingly well with said traffic but on the uphill... I would heavily suggest taking the detour via the Route d'Héry. Yes this means more climbing but it is much safer!

Go to Lake Carroley, head towards Lake Friolin. Arrived at the Carroley restaurant, take the small path on the right, marked with a black triangle (mountain bike trail) and follow, Lake Friolin is indicated at the end of this path.

Lovely hike at this time of the year - so many wild flowers. Not ideal after heavy rain as crossing streams and waterfalls can be hazardous and not for the faint hearted. Excellent refuge.

Can walk up and back on same route or do a loop

Vertiginous path on the side of the cliff. A must to reach the col du bonhomme / de la sauce

As you walk through the hollow of the Ormente valley, the mountains come together in a romantic picture. Between winding tracks, turbulent rivers and isolated chalets, the mountain atmosphere is preserved here. At the end of the valley, you can climb to the top of the Aiguille de la Nova (2,893 meters) or reach the Balme refuge (2,009 meters).
