Heron Lake is the largest of the three reservoirs that are circumnavigated by the Pella Crossing trail network. The crushed-gravel trails circling around the water are flat, wide, and easy for most trail users.

Button Rock Dam overlooks the Ralph Price (Button Rock) Reservoir and the Button Rock Preserve. This walk-in only preserve is a unique experience for visitors, with plenty of trails that offer a close up look at water management facilities and plenty of wildlife viewing opportunities. While you can fish in the reservoir, there is no swimming or dogs allowed to help protect the reservoir.

The Lagerman Agricultural Preserve and Reservoir is a small nature preserve that birders, boaters, picnickers, bikers, runners, and dog-walkers can all enjoy. You get great views of the foothills over farms and fields as you run lightly-graded crushed gravel and dirt roads.

The McIntosh lake offers several miles of walking and cycling path. Families can find a nice playground area and you can also bring your non motorized boat to paddle around the lake. From the eastern lakeside you also have great views into the Rocky Mountains.

Wildlife, lakes and a backdrop of mountains – Pella Crossing is a wonderful place to explore for some peace and nature. You can ride here from Boulder and any of the surrounding towns, and this is the perfect place for a rest break. On a clear day, the mountain backdrop is stunning.
