The Castillo de los Ulloa castle sits atop a rocky outcrop above the town of Vélez de Benaudalla, offering beautiful views of the entire old town and beyond to the valley of the Río Guadalfeo, the surrounding mountains, the reservoir, the slopes of the Alpujarra mountains, and the sometimes snow-covered mountain ranges of the Sierra Nevada.

The Carchuna Castle, also known as “El Castillejo”, has been declared as Cultural Heritage Asset since 1993. Built at the end of the 18th century under the order of King Carlos III, its main purpose was to protect and give safety to the area due to the continuous pirate attacks. Until the 17th century, this coast and plains were deserted and shelter of Berber corsairs. After the construction of this fortress, the pirate attacks ceased and Carchuna-Calahonda was eventually formed due to the settlement of people from the Alpujarra and Motril as well as the cultivation of the area

Open to visitors, admission is €4, which also includes admission to the Cave of the Seven Palaces Museum. It houses some Iberian and Roman remains as a museum inside. The views are highly recommended.

La Herradura Castle, built in 1771 by order of Charles III, is a coastal fortification located in La Herradura, Granada. Originally, its function was to defend the coast from pirate and privateer raids. In 2021, the castle was restored and converted into the “1562 La Furia del Mar” Interpretation Centre, a museum that commemorates the tragic shipwreck of the Spanish Armada that occurred in the bay of La Herradura in 1562, where 25 of the 28 galleys sank, causing the death of nearly 5,000 people.

Castillo de San Miguel is a very interesting remnant of the city's history.

This is an old fortress located in the term called guajares, we have three towns Guajar Fondón, Guajar Faraguit and Guajar Alto. In which there are thousands of routes to discover and do MTB or hiking. Guajar Faraguit where we left the vehicle and went down to the river of los guajares once in the same river we crossed it by a picturesque bridge and right there we began the ascent to the old fortress about 3 or 4 km round trip from the same town In short, a good route I recommend it.
