A good alternative... less touristy and crowded... compared to the Santa Barbara Fortress. Wonderful views of the hinterland and the mountains, the city districts, and even the sea.

It's worth going up the castle just for the views that accompany us along the way. I recommend entering from Eret Park. P.S. Admission to the castle is free :)

The hike from Santa Bárbara Castle, passing through La Ereta Park, to Alicante's historic center is a wonderful experience. This route will not only allow you to enjoy nature and the views, but also immerse you in Alicante's history and culture.

Towers over the city and is a great destination on foot (a good 160 meters high) or for a few euros by elevator or taxi. The Santa Barbara Castle dates back to the 11th century and has been expanded or rebuilt several times in the years since. A small experience with beautiful views of the surroundings.

The San Fernando Castle, located in Alicante, is a fortress built in the 19th century during the War of Independence against the French. It is located on Monte Tossal and was designed by the military engineer Pablo Ordovás y Sastre. The castle has an irregular design adapted to the topography of the hill and has several bastions and curtains with a broken layout. Although it was built for defensive purposes, it never entered active military service. During the Spanish Civil War, it was used as a concentration camp by Franco's troops. Today, the San Fernando Castle is a place of historical and cultural interest, surrounded by the Monte Tossal Park and other points of interest such as the Alicante sports city and the Óscar Esplá music conservatory.

A steep climb, but well worth it! With an old cemetery at the top and beautiful views all around.
