Medieval fortress located in the town of Medinaceli, in the province of Soria, Castile and Leon. Its origin dates back to the 9th century, although it was rebuilt in the 15th century on the remains of an Arab fortress.

Medinaceli has always been a place specially prepared for war. The castle, together with all its walls, were fundamental elements in its history.

The castle is located in a strategic position on an elongated hill in a bend of the Jalón River, separated by a moat. Originally, it had two towers joined by walls, although one of them has recently collapsed. The tower that still stands has a pentagonal plan and is very elongated, reminiscent of the keel of a ship. Today, the castle has been restored and transformed partly into a private home and partly into a hotel. Its decoration includes historical elements and antiques, such as pieces of Romanesque art and Mudejar doors.

It is an old castle in ruins, with some auxiliary buildings also in ruins. Their function was probably to defend the surrounding fields and the people who worked them. Around the Castle is the impressive ravine of Arroyo Madre or Arroyo de Sagides. It is very well founded on a rock that also provides a step of protection against attackers. Miño de Medinaceli is a small rural town in the province of Soria. You can park next to the community pools and start your walk. Climb up to see the ruins of a Moorish-occupied castle dating back to the 10th century and sitting on top of a hill above the city.
