Until around 1855, a paper mill operated on the De Molenbeek estate, powered by water from the Griftbeek stream. A waterwheel once stood at the site of the stone ruin, which powered the entire mill. The blue-green information board shows step by step how papermaking worked, from pounding old rags to pressing and drying the paper. This process began in the Middle Ages and continued into the last century. So, using water from the Veluwe, paper has been made in this region for over 400 years.

Beekhuizen consists of varied and very hilly deciduous and coniferous forests with many beech avenues, a small heathland and some agricultural land. In the middle of the estate, just inside the National Park, lies the park-like valley of the Beekhuizensebeek with springs, waterfalls and ponds. The Beekhuizen estate was purchased in 1682 by the lord of Biljoen Castle, Alexander van Spaen, and added to Biljoen. Under his descendant Johan Frederik Willem (1746-1827), Beekhuizen acquired international allure through its innovative romantic park construction. The hilly Beekhuizen was to become an Arcadian landscape, where man as a wandering shepherd let the landscape determine his mood. The construction of the landscape park at Beekhuizen started around 1777. Van Spaen was inspired, among other things, by trips he made to Italy, France and Switzerland.
