Rumcajs was a shoemaker in Jičín and had to make shoes for the city's mayor Humpál. Humpál was proud of his big feet, but Rumcajs boasted that he saw bigger feet. Humpál expels him to the (fictional) Řáholec forest "for the insult of the mayor's foot". Rumcajs becomes a Robin Hood-like bandit. He settled in a cave in the forest and was given his distinctive features: a tall red hat, a beard with a swarm of bees and a pistol loaded with acorns. Rumcajs' opponents include the mayor, the prince, the princess, their lackey, and even the emperor. His helpers include his family, animals, and forest and water spirits. The cave actually exists and is still maintained as if someone had lived there. A made bed, a jug of water on the table, a flower for Manka and even a packaged snack for Cipísk.
