Pookivaara is a scenic hill in the Rokua Geopark, offering sweeping views over forests and eskers shaped by the Ice Age. At its summit stands a wooden fire watchtower, a sentinel of the wild, used in summer by fire wardens who scan the horizon for signs of smoke or wildfire.

The area around Konttaisjärvi and Konttainen Hill offers significant elevation differences, providing stunning views of the lake as well as of the ridge formed by Ruka, Valtavaara, Konttainen and Kumpuvaara. The same ridge also includes Pyhävaara, located behind Ruka when looking from Konttainen towards Ruka.

Cute little wooden hut with a fireplace. Firewood is also available and just a few meters away you can enjoy the panorama of the beautiful landscape from a viewing point.

From the 492-meter-high summit of Valtavaara you have a great view of the flat landscape of the Valtavaara-Pyhävaara Nature Reserve. In cool weather, the nearby day trip hut with a stove and picnic table invites you to warm up.

Not far away but provides a taste of quiet nature in contrast to the busy Ruka tourist resort.

The Valtavaaran huiputus Trail is a scenic loop that takes you deep into the calm nature of the nature reserve. To keep your feet dry and the vegetation safe, you will walk along boardwalks for some sections. The trail gets you up to the summit of Valtavaara and to some wilderness hut to take a break or put something on the barbecue.

From the top of Valtavaara mountain at 492 meters, you have a beautiful view of the mostly flat landscape of Valtavaara-Pyhävaara Nature Reserve around you. If it is chilly (like most of the time), there is a wooden hut with a fire pit just next to the summit.
