In order to better control the Öresund, the Danish King Christian III had the fortress built in 1549 directly on the coast, west of the city center of Landskrona. The inner fortress core was completed in 1559 and has a square floor plan with external dimensions of about 90x90 meters with a mighty round tower at each corner, surrounded by a 30 meter wide moat. The outdoor facilities and the castle courtyard of the fortress are freely accessible at any time during the day. There is a cozy café near the western bastion and you can even go fishing in the inner fortress moat.
