Very nice castle that can only be visited by appointment, a real shame

Very beautiful place.

Not a huge crowd puller, but it is there and historical. Ultimately, the overview board showing what this fortress originally looked like helped me to understand the gardens. You can't see much of the garden itself. But there is the monastery garden at the foot of the fortress, which you can also visit. It is more interesting from a botanical point of view. My guest house had a view of the fortress and the gardens illuminated in the evening. It is a really beautiful motif.

Esparron owes its attractiveness to the creation of Lake Esparron de Verdon in 1967. Indeed this artificial reservoir has become over time an important center of summer tourism, frequented for water sports and fishing.
