Unfortunately, part of the route is not accessible and has been fenced off. No detour or alternative possible. We then chose another spot, which was not as nice. But the view from the castle is a compensation.

Gothic-style fortification of Palma de Mallorca. It was built at the beginning of the 14th century by order of King Jaime II of Majorca. It is located on a hill 112 meters above sea level, which gives it privileged views over the city, the port, the Tramuntana mountains and the Llano de Mallorca; in fact, its name comes from the old Catalan bell veer, which means "beautiful view". One of its peculiarities is that it is one of the few castles in all of Europe with a circular plan, being the oldest of these.

The Moorish building, which is stately enthroned next to the landmark of Palma de Mallorca, the cathedral, is already noticeable from afar. The Palacio de Almudaina (Almudaina means citadel outside the city walls) is a former fortress of Arabic origin. It dates back to when Mallorca was occupied by Moorish rulers from North Africa. The emir had a palace and a mosque built so that he could reside in style. What are popular sights today, the royal palace and the cathedral, were the seat of power and the main mosque of Palma in Moorish times. The Almudaina Palace still has some original elements, even after numerous renovations. The windows of the main façade facing the sea are in the typical Arabian pointed arch style, the wooden ceilings are painted with Arabian patterns and a palma stands in the inner courtyard to greet strangers. During a tour of the palace, many things are reminiscent of Arabic houses and it is not difficult to dream of Marrakech. Today the Almudaina Palace in Mallorca is the seat of the military command and at the same time the official residence of the Spanish king. Its presence is signaled by the Spanish flag on the roof. Parts of the Palacio de la Almudaina can be visited individually or as part of a guided tour. Of particular note are the 17th-century Flemish paintings and tapestries, the 14th-century Saint Anna Chapel, and the terrace and stunning views. The Royal Palace is not just any sight in Palma, but reflects our history and the years of Moorish rule in Mallorca like no other building. We owe Palma's romantic old town with its alleys and courtyards to the occupiers from North Africa.
