The sanctuary is located on the summit of a mountain, Mont, and enjoys privileged views over the Empordà plain and the mountains of Alta Garrotxa and the southern slopes of the Girona Pyrenees. The adjoining church dates from the late Romanesque period, built in the early 14th century, with a pointed barrel vault. In the 18th century, an inn was built, famous for having hosted the poet Jacint Verdaguer, who wrote one of his most famous poems here, "Canigó" (a mountain in the Pyrenees visible from here). In 2008, a public subscription funded a two-meter-high bronze statue of the poet. The inn currently operates as a restaurant and hotel.

This 998m peak, in the same way as in the case of Castell d'Arget, its strategic situation was very suitable for building a watchtower; it is said that this was a construction prior to the 10th century since "Rocha Graiaria" is mentioned in 954; in 1531 it was registered within the vegueria of Besalú, Between the 17th and 18th centuries this point is mentioned as the border between the terms of the Vilars and the Comú de la Vila. According to 19th century farmers, there were more vestiges than have been documented. I'm sure it communicated with that of Arget and that of the nearby Puig Falcó. If we are not in the mood to climb, or if the weather is bad, it is recommended to use the alternative path that leaves on the left around the rock on its north side and joins on its E side, from where we easily reach the top.

This mountain, at 1056 m, is the highest point of the Serra de Bac Grillera and is included in the list of 100 peaks of the F.E.E.C. We find a geodetic vertex of the National Geographic Institute and the Cartographic Institute of Catalonia. To the north we can enjoy good views of the Salines, the town of Tapis and Maçanet de Cabrenys in the background, while to the south we have the Serra del Mont and the Bassegoda.

The sanctuary of the Mare de Déu del Mont is located on the peak of the Sierra del Mont, at an altitude of 1,124 metres. Next to the sanctuary we find the statue of Jacint Verdaguer and an incredible viewpoint to appreciate the landscape that surrounds the mountain, from the Empordà plain, the Alta Garrotxa to the southern slopes of the Pyrenees.
