Square-plan castle located in the upper part of Bellcaire d’Empordà. It consists of a central courtyard and a walled outer enclosure with battered walls, defended by six circular towers. The western wing is occupied by a building, probably the main hall of the castle. The castle was built at the end of the 13th century, to improve the defenses of the county, due to the disputes between the Count of Empúries Ponç V and King Jaime II (who in turn had ordered the construction of the castle of Torroella de Montgrí and that of Albons). Currently its south wing is the seat of the Bellcaire d'Empordà town hall, while the west wing houses the parish church.
