At 209 meters above sea level, the Kattenroth is one of the highest points in the Voer region. From the summit, you have a panoramic view of the rolling Limburg hills, the surrounding meadows, forest edges, and picturesque villages such as Sint-Martens-Voeren and Ulvend. The hill is popular with hikers and nature lovers because the area offers a combination of tranquility and beautiful vistas. Along the paths, you'll encounter wooded banks, old field paths, and the occasional field cross, adding to the charm of this landscape. The Kattenroth is not only a place for views and relaxation but also a landmark in the Voeren landscape.

204 steps lead to the top of the slag heap at a height of 57 m. From here you have a wonderful view of the Herve region.

NB, The much-mentioned “Hidden Valley” is a forbidden area. The organization that designed the Dutch Mountain Trail never asked permission from the Dutch and Belgian landowners. You walk through vulnerable forest reserves and Nature 2000 areas. It could be a very expensive expedition if you meet a Forest Ranger. It's a shame that Dutch Mountain Trail does not take the outdoor code seriously. It is a beautiful but very vulnerable area. Natuur Monumenten has placed a sign when you enter their area. Follow that indication and you will reach the top of the Observant via legal paths. From then on, the Dutch Mountain Trail runs on regular paths.

Very well restored, it inspires respect for the generations of miners who made the hours of glory and prosperity of our Wallonia in the last centuries! Climbing the slag heap is paying homage to them with an effort that has no common measure with the hard life they have known!

It is a site where everyone can find their interest, historical, cultural, sporting or just to enjoy nature; you have to climb to the top (204 easy steps, take your time!) from where the view is breathtaking!
