Winegrowing on the Seewiese meadow in Klagenfurt has a long history: for over 40 years, in fact. On an area of more than half a hectare, the city's winegrowers have planted vines of Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay, and Riesling for white wines, and Zweigelt, St. Laurent, Blauburger, and Merlot for red wines. The city's winegrowers are happy to offer guided tours of the vineyard, followed by a wine tasting, by appointment. The vineyard is located on the circular hiking trail around Lake Wörthersee.

The entrance portal itself is a promise. Five arches, as upright as they were in the 1920s, when architecture could still welcome summer. Behind it lies the lido, which is more than just an outdoor pool: it is a social melting pot in swimwear, a grand production of suntan oil, conversations in dialect, and the eternal sparkle of Lake Wörthersee. Here, beach volleyballs were hurled through the air, Ironmen were thrown into the water, and memories were spread out like beach towels on the jetties. On clear days, the Pyramidenkogel stands silently on the horizon, as if watching for the stories the water tells. The lake's surface is so smooth that it refuses to be just water—it wants to be a stage, for swimmers and strollers, for the light that comes and goes. In winter, two people in jackets walk across the wood; in summer, hundreds of children jump into the water, somersaulting and screaming. The seasons change—the pool remains. And anyone who has ever experienced the early morning, when the mist hangs over the lake and the silence resonates louder than any bathing sound, knows that this isn't a place you simply visit. You return. Again and again.

And then there's the Pirkerkogel – 666 meters above everyday life. The path up isn't long, but long enough to forget the noise below. At the top, a picture like something out of a brochure about an Alpine idyll awaits: lake, mountains, forests – and in the middle of it all, the Pyramidenkogel, rising from the back of the mountain like a distant exclamation point. If you're lucky, you'll still find the bench free – it's half in the light, half in the shade, and, as one commentator wrote, is dry even in the rain. Perhaps that's the true quality of this place: even the weather seems to be considerate here.

There are places that speak not only of nature, but also of culture. The view from the vineyard across the lake is one of them. Between the vines, which grow in a row toward the light, stands a lounger. Not an ordinary one, but one made of wood, with patina and poise. Those who sit down here not only become part of the panorama—they are stilled, in the truest sense of the word. The lake sparkles like a well-chilled white wine, the opposite shore nestles against the water, and in the distance, the Karawanks rise as if nodding silently. Up here, time becomes soft. Thoughts tumble from blossom to blossom like the last bees of late summer. And for those lucky enough, a light breeze will touch them with a hint of Riesling and emotion.
