Solferino is known for the Risorgimento battle of Solferino and San Martino. Following this tragic historical event, here H.Dunant had the idea of founding the International Red Cross. From a cycling point of view, the territory is that of the morainic hills of the Alto Mantovano. These are gentle hills on which it is possible to enjoy easy itineraries. Lower Garda with Desenzano is about ten km away. The proximity favors itineraries that lead to the shores of the lake and its arch of moraine hills.

You should definitely visit the very beautiful city of Mantova, which is about 30 km from Peschiera del Garda along the Mincio. With the 🚲 only small inclines can be mastered!

Within the city walls there are numerous buildings, museums and beautiful squares to discover, such as the Palazzo Ducale with the frescoes by the Italian painter Andrea Mantegna in the "Camera degli Sposi" - the wedding room - and with the study of Isabella d'Este, the medieval Palazzo della Ragione with the clock tower, the Municipal Museum in the Palazzo San Sebastiano, the Rotonda di San Lorenzo or the Basilica of Sant'Andrea, among many others. Just outside the old town is also the Gonzaga family's former pleasure palace, Palazzo Te, which today houses important collections and exhibitions. A stroll through the alleys and squares of the old town is also worthwhile - Mantova is rich in beautiful squares, all lined up next to each other and framed by impressive palazzi and buildings: e.g. Piazza Erbe and Piazza Sordello.
