Italian military post from the Great War with four gunboats for as many 70 mm mountain guns. The battery closed the complex defensive system of the Cengio stronghold to the east, which was then connected to the adjacent Monte Barco stronghold. The emplacement was built between the spring and summer of 1917: the entire area (like many others in the Pre-Alps) was fortified following the Strafexpedition of 1916, to hinder any future Austro-Hungarian attacks. The gallery is very wide and majestic: average width of 2 m, length of about 74 m, 4 caves/munitions depot.

'Quota 1045' is the extreme (southern/eastern) tip of the Monte Cengio massif, between Val Canaglia and Val Cengiotta, below Piazzale Principe del Piemonte: here a cave stronghold was built by the Italian military engineers to hinder a possible Austro-Hungarian attack from the west (as happened with the Strafexpedition of 1916). It also controlled the 'Sentiero delle Postazioni', the fortified defensive line built along a ridge that rises from Cogollo to the Cengio, to monitor and keep the access to the Val d'Astico under fire. It is not well known, being set back from the well-known Arroccamento del Cengio mule track, but it was an integrated and important part of the entire stronghold of the massif.
