The Mestre Forest includes the Zaher Forest, dedicated to the memory of Zaher Rezai, an Afghan boy who left his country in 2008 to undertake a difficult six-thousand-kilometer journey in the hope of reaching a country where he could live a better life. Disembarking from a ship in the port of Venice, he hid under a truck to cross the border. However, Zaher lost his life, crushed by the truck's wheels on a road not far from the forest dedicated to him. Next to his body, a clear bag was found containing a few cherished objects and the pages of a diary with sincere and touching phrases of hope and verses of poetry in ancient Persian.

The forest includes dedicated areas such as Bosco di Franca and Bosco Zaher, which honor historical figures and blend natural beauty with memorial spaces. It's a peaceful and accessible retreat for all ages, offering ample opportunities to observe local wildlife. Visitors should bring their own supplies, as facilities are limited. For those looking for shade, peace and relaxation, the Parco Laghetti Martellago nature reserve is the perfect location in this vast flat land. There is a large free parking lot at the entry point. The hiking trails through the lake area are mostly linear. To break the monotony you can make a twist here and there. (Is good for body and mind 😜). Advice: the use of insect spray is recommended. The mosquitoes rule here.

A strategic point both for descending towards Mestre and for ascending in the direction of Scorzè towards the path of the mills along the Dese, to then end towards the sources of the Sile.
