Such a warm little village. I was in the bar opposite the church on the piazza and was greeted so warmly as if I had always lived there. Next to the church is a beautiful mural and I also had a good meal at il Pellegrino.

The Tower of Charles V was built in 1554 to defend the most important charger on the island; the massive structure, with a truncated pyramid shape, is dominated by the so-called "gunboat terrace". The dimensions and defenses of the fortification still give an idea of the importance of the loader in the economy of the time. The tower was used as a prison for a long time: in 1848 it was the scene of the massacre of 114 prisoners. Source: https://fondoambiente.it/

Around the majestic cliff of the ducal castle, built by the Colonna princes, stands the picturesque village of Joppolo Giancaxio, founded in 1696 at the behest of the baron. In addition to its castle, this agricultural center is famous for the cultivation of yellow melon and for the annual festival held in early August, attracting enthusiasts and the curious.

The Torre del Salto d'Angiò, also known by the name "a Turri" as it is called in popular jargon, is located about 12 km from Aragona, in the province of Agrigento. The structure is rectangular in shape, incorporated into an 18th century farmhouse, and is divided into three levels, of which the first and third have rounded mullioned windows, while the second has pointed single-lancet windows. Its imposing mass stands at the center of three courtyards, where the rooms of the farm were once located. The Torre del Salto d'Angiò is positioned at the meeting point of three fiefdoms: Diesi, Cantarella and Muxarello and overlooks the territory of the latter two. In the period between the 13th and 14th centuries these two fiefdoms were united into a single fiefdom: the Muxaro. A Turri has undergone many transformations over the centuries and is still a structure with a particular charm, thanks also to the enchanting and solitary landscape in which it is located. The Chiaramontano Castle of Montechiaro is the only one that overlooks the sea. All the other Chiaramonte castles are in the internal areas of Sicily. Its beauty is moving and the noise under the cliff is poignant.

Built towards the end of the thirteenth century, perhaps on an unfinished construction of Swabian origin, its forms reflect Frederick's models. The building was inhabited until the beginning of the seventeenth century, while in the eighteenth century the rooms of the kitchens on the sides of the ogival portal were used as a prison (during the nineteenth century those on the left were used as a criminal prison and those on the right as a civil prison. they left numerous graffiti on the walls. A crenellated tower that was located in the southwest corner of the external enclosure, mentioned in 1611, was renovated around 1820 and was demolished for the construction of the palace of Giuseppe Cafisi in the 1840s, together with a large Gothic portal ("portal greater"); at the same time the large cistern in the center of the enclosure was covered with pavement. In the sixties of the twentieth century the enclosure was deprived of the western section, from the southern wall of the castle to the new post office (1963). Source: wikipedia

According to a tradition of the fourth decade of the eighteenth century until the mid-nineteenth century it was the mother church of the town. Little is known when it was built. The bishops of Agrigento during their pastoral visits of 1608, 1647 and 1677, in the city, never mentioned this church. It is therefore probable that the building dates back to the end of the seventeenth century and the subsequent completion at the beginning of the following century, followed by a restructuring dating back to around 1730. To confirm this intervention, outside the church, on the eastern wall, there are still some eighteenth-century plaster and a small frame, where the manufacturing date is still visible. The occluded windows are also of the eighteenth century and are still visible in the same wall today. It is known for sure that in 1733 the church was undergoing a refurbishment, with funds deriving from the proceeds of a leather tannery that the inhabitants had allocated to it. The church was renovated again in the time span from 1845 to 1853.
