The Matildica tower of Governolo, located in the area once known as Matildica Island, is what remains of a 14th century trapezoidal castle, demolished on the orders of Emperor Charles VI. This historic tower, together with a 17th-century crenellated house, has hosted popes and emperors and witnessed numerous battles.

Beautiful castle that is located at the pass through the small town of Castel d'Ario and from where you can see the whole of the exterior structure. Even so, the castle is not too well preserved and you can see the passage of time.
