At 587 meters, the Valtenberg is the highest mountain in the Lusatian Mountains. The proud tower alone is worth a visit. An event operator was recruited for the restaurant in 2025 – who may also continue to run the mountain lodge as a tenant.

Unfortunately the inn is closed. There are currently no opening hours (summer 2024).

Roofed, closed walls, two benches wide enuff to sleep on; might work as an emergency shelter; gravel paths around (35mm tyres is a minimum imo..i had 44mm); little table with benches outside

Here you can take a break and enjoy a delicious meal. The little detour to the North Cape is worth it.

In the years 1954-1959 a directional radio station was operated here in the directional radio network of the SED. It was the connecting point between Cottbus and Dresden. The mast was 50m high

A pillar of the Royal Saxon Triangulation is embedded on the upper platform of the tower. It is one of 121 surviving technical monuments of this type in Saxony. As a first-order station, the geodesists drew lines of sight of 50-60 km. This is how views from N.T.R. unfold here. in the direction of the stations Ossling (north of Kamenz), Nostitzhöhe (near Groß Radisch), Jauernick (Poland), Jeschken (Czech Republic), Lausche (Lausitz Mountains), Schneeberg (Bohemian Switzerland), Kahleberg (Eastern Ore Mountains), Porsberg (near Dresden) , Baeyerhöhe (highest elevation in Meissen), Strauch (Heideturm north of Grossenhain) and Keulenberg (highest elevation in West Lusatia). That alone is a gigantic dimension of views. In addition, there are lines of sight to stations of the 2nd order for accuracy at a distance of about 20km. These are from N.T.R.: Salzenforst (near Bautzen), Czorneboh, Taubenberg, Ruhebänke (near Rugiswalde), Grossenberg, Felixthurm (near Radeberg), Butterberg (near Bischofswerda).
