Altitude 1575m an amazing view over the Swartberg Pass

The shelter at 1400 m above sea level at Towerkop serves as an overnight accommodation for hikers on the way to Nel's Cave at the Towerkop summit. The open tin hut is additionally protected with stones and offers shelter for around 6 people. There is a barbecue area in front of the hut. There is a stream nearby. In December there was still running water here.

The hikers' car park for access to Towerkop is on private property belonging to the Volschenk family. Prior consent must be obtained from the owners for access and use. Well-marked circular hiking trail. Sturdy shoes are helpful.

Bike hike,there is a creek with clear water. Route goes only to apex, no rideable road on opposite side of mount, the road is overgrown with bushes. Before the uphill is a house where you can spend a night (should be a cold water)

A beautiful gorge through the folded mountains of the Karoo. The road twist and turns for nearly 20km through orange sandstone cliffs, folded and shaped by the forces of nature over the years. Be cautious of oncoming traffic as you will dropping down at high speed on a road with many blind corners.

If your staying in Prince Albert and want to go mountain biking or a scenic drive the Swartberg Pass is the place to go. I cycled through but you can easily cycle there and back in one day. There are many others doing the same.
