If you enjoy uphill riding, there's hardly a better way in Switzerland to pack in so many meters of elevation in one climb. On this variant from Chippis to the Barrage de Moiry, you'll break the 2,000-meter elevation gain mark. From the valley floor in the Rhône Valley, you first ascend to Vercorin, where the elevation profile flattens out before descending again to Grimentz. Rested, you'll tackle the second part of the climb there. You'll finally reach the finish line at 2,250 meters after a short tunnel.

The volume of the barrier is 815,000 m3, the storage volume is 78 million m3 and the surface of the lake is 140 hectares. and a length of 2.4 km. Amazing descent coming from Pas de Lona / Basset de Lona with a breathtaking panorama onto Lac de Moiry and its glacier. Chunky gravel at first, it smoothens out as you go down.

The turquoise color of this mountain lake is truly incredible. I highly recommend taking a picnic break to admire the beautiful views.

Very impressive building in the middle of the mountains. There is a restaurant at the dam wall and a hiking hut a little above.

In the background you can already see the Moiry Glacier in its full size as it glides down several steep steps into the valley. A magnificent serac zone with crevices has formed above every steep step and high, multi-step side moraines can be seen on both sides. The melt river that feeds the Lac de Moiry rises from the glacier tongue.
