7월 27, 2025, Batumi Botanical Garden Highlights
Just a few kilometers north of Batumi's city center, a different rhythm begins: moss instead of engines, ferns instead of fast food. The Batumi Botanical Garden isn't a place to "look through" the landscape, but to breathe deeply. Those who come here see more than just plants – they get a sense of how quiet beauty can be. The garden stretches for several kilometers along a ridge above the Black Sea coast. The paths are well-maintained and well-signposted, but often narrow and enchanted. Those with the time can lose themselves among subtropical giant trees, overgrown moss paths, and exotic plant collections. A highlight: the living bridge One of the most impressive motifs is hidden a little off the beaten track: a natural bridge made from a fallen tree trunk, covered in moss and framed by young undergrowth. It almost seems like a scene from a Studio Ghibli film – and yet it is simply nature at its most creative. Other park highlights: – A dreamy fountain with a dolphin sculpture – Panoramic views over the Black Sea, especially dramatic on overcast days – Giant pines, palm trees, bamboo groves, magnolias, and rhododendrons – Pleasantly cool glades and plenty of benches for breaks Practical tips: The main entrance is located south of Chakvi. Easily accessible by taxi or bus. If you prefer, you can also get dropped off at the lower park entrance and then hike uphill – it takes time, but it's worth it. Sturdy shoes are recommended; the paths can be slippery when wet.

The Peace Bridge is an arched pedestrian bridge over the Mtkvari River in the Georgian capital, Tbilisi. The 150-meter-long, covered bridge was opened on May 6, 2010, and connects Tbilisi's Old Town with the newly designed Rike Park, not far from the Presidential Palace. It is located between the Barachvili and Metheki Bridges and was designed by the Italian architect Michele De Lucchi.

During my stay in May 2025, there were regular demonstrations here. But they were peaceful, nothing exciting.

You have to cross this bridge! It offers beautiful photo opportunities of the city and the Kura River. The park invites you to linger or take a hot air balloon ride.

Right next to the Vorontsov Palace is the parliament, built in 1938 and expanded in 1958, magnificent and pompous. With the exception of the years 2012-18 (Kutaisi), the parliament always met here.

The geological formation is incredible. The path is next to the basalt wall, it will be safe until a rock falls on someone's head. Today, entry was 300 drams. The structure they built for pedestrians is good, I believe it is possible to travel the route with a wheelchair too. I entered from the side that comes from the valley, going down the street next to the entrance to the Temple of the Sun (separate entrance). There is another entrance for those coming by car, and this one has a slightly steep slope. I didn't like the number of cars passing among the pedestrians, it seems to me that it will turn into a place for mass tourism.

11월 16, 2023, Abanotubani Sulphur Bathhouses
Abanotubani is a tourist highlight in Tbilisi. Here you will find the ruins of the Nariqala fortress, which dates back to the 3rd century, and from there you have a direct view of the famous sulfur baths. The only mosque in the Georgian capital is in the immediate vicinity. There is also an entrance to the Botanical Garden, which extends into the Legwtachevi Gorge, below the fortress.

With his love of modern architecture, former President Mikheil Saakashvili designed the Peace Bridge, built in 2010, to resemble a gentle wave. Connecting the old town with new residential areas, the 156-meter-long Peace Bridge spans the Kura River. The new town has become a vibrant consumer paradise, home primarily to older people. The highlights of a visit to the fortress are the beautiful views of Tbilisi, the panoramic path to the Kartli Deda statue (Mother of Georgia), and the St. Nicholas Church, on the lower part of the fortress complex. A visit to the botanical garden can also be combined with the route to the fortress.

11월 10, 2023, Narikala Fortress
Nariqala (Georgian: ნარიყალა) is a fortress in the Georgian capital Tbilisi. Built at the end of the 3rd century, it was the most important medieval castle in Georgia. It has lain in ruins since 1827 on the summit of the Sololaki mountain ridge above the old town and consists of two walled sections. The fortress was built under the Persian Sassanid occupation. Its current name comes from the Persian word Nari-Qala and means impregnable castle. In Georgian it was initially called Shuris ziche (“Fortress of Envy”). Their task was the military defense of the capital. It was built at the narrowest point of the Kura Gorge, where the roads from Europe to India and from north to south intersected. The fortress consists of two parts: the upper and lower fortress. The upper fortress on the ridge is a citadel. It served as the last bastion of defense in the event of a siege and was considered almost impregnable because it bordered on an almost vertical slope on three sides. The lower fortress, Qala, is formed by parallel walls that extend from the citadel to the river. Source: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nariqala

11월 10, 2023, Old Town Tbilisi
Tbilisi (Georgian თბილისი Tbilisi [tʰbɪˈɫɪsɪ]; until 1936 ტფილისი Tpilisi [tʼpʰɪˈɫɪsɪ]) is the capital of Georgia. It is the most populous and largest city in the country. Tbilisi has more than a million inhabitants, the total area is 726 square kilometers, and the built-up area is around 70 square kilometers. On the right bank of the Kura, above the old town, lie the ruins of the 3rd century Nariqala Fortress. Above the fortifications stands the monumental statue Kartlis Deda (German: 'Mother of Georgia'). There is a 128-hectare botanical garden underneath. It was created in 1845 on the grounds of the fortress park. The old town with narrow, winding cobblestone streets is to be declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are the Sioni Cathedral from the 5th century, the Metekhi Church of the Georgian Kings from the 13th century, the Anchishati Basilica from the 6th century and the Great Synagogue. The Silk Road once ran through the old town. Their old caravanserais still stand today. The houses are mostly made of wood and have carved overhanging balconies. In the Abanotubani spa district there are 17th century sulfur baths and a mosque. Adjacent to the old town are the magnificent buildings of the 19th century in the Garetubani district. The centerpiece is the Rustaveli Boulevard, lined with plane trees, between Freedom Square and Republic Square. It is home to, among other things, the Kashveti Church, the State Picture Gallery, the Historical Museum, the State Rustaveli Theater, the Opera and the Parliament Building. The Kura is lined with wide riverside boulevards, where, however, cars dominate pedestrians on multi-lane roads. Source and further information: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tbilisi

11월 4, 2023, Parliament of Georgia
The Parliament Building of Georgia is the headquarters of the Georgian Parliament in Tbilisi. The building is located on Rustavelis Gamsiri. The building was built as the seat of government of the Georgian Soviet Socialist Republic. The upper part of the building was built between 1933 and 1938 based on designs by architects Viktor Kokorin and Giorgi Leschava. The lower part along Rustavelis Gamsiri was designed by the same architects together with Vladimir Nazaridze and built from 1946 to 1953. The ensemble of buildings is an important example of a regional interpretation of socialist classicism. Source: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parlamentsgeb%C3%A4ude_(Tbilisi)

9월 19, 2023, Symphony of Stones
The monument is made up of huge symmetrical hexagonal and pentagonal basalt columns (almost 50 meters high), which appear to be handcrafted due to their extraordinary symmetry. These wonderful rocks were formed under high pressure conditions due to the cooling and crystallization of volcanic lava. These stones suspended against gravity resemble an organ, which explains why it is also called the “Basalt Organ”. The soundtrack is provided by the river that flows through the gorge and fills the splendor of the stone with the sound of water.
