For me, one of the most beautiful grottos in the whole of Ticino. Not far from the road there are fine local specialties and a good café. The grotto is located directly on the Fiume Peccia, which flows over a few large boulders and forms a natural pool underneath. From the outside of the grotto you have a direct view of the blue-green water.

Very impressive section of the Leventina. A small detour that is also highly recommended by bike instead of using the main road.

We haven't stopped here, but the rustic Grotto La Froda restaurant right next to the bridge over the river bed of the Calnegia is an eye-catcher with a wonderful ambience and is well frequented. The restaurant is located in a world of stones, water and wood, in a vertical alpine valley that is only inhabited during the favorable season, without electricity and where new buildings are prohibited.

The Grotto Pozzasc is located in Peccia (Upper Maggia Valley) in an idyllic location near a natural pool formed from the river of the Pecci Valley. Originally, the grotto served as a mill, which is evidenced by some remains of wood and stone. Polenta is prepared every day by the fireplace and served with appetizers, various types of cheese, mortadella and codegotto. At the granite tables in the shade of the large trees, both the culinary delights and the wonderful view of the river can be enjoyed.

The Piottino Gorge is traversed by the Ticino River and separates the Alta Leventina from the Media Leventina with a height difference of around 150 meters. The gorge has always been a major obstacle on Gotthard Street because it is very narrow and surrounded by high rocks. A mule track through the gorge did not run until the end of the 14th century. The Gotthard Railway Company built the two spiral tunnels Freggio and Prato to overcome the difference in height caused by the Piottino Gorge.

The Piottino Gorge flows through the Ticino River and separates Alta Leventina from the Media Leventina with a difference in altitude of about 150 meters. The gorge was always a major obstacle on the Gotthard road, as it is very narrow and surrounded by high rocks. So it was only at the end of the 14th century that a mule track ran through the gorge. The Gotthardbahn company built to overcome the caused by the Piottino gorge height difference, the two spiral tunnels Freggio and Prato.
