This part of Trail 50 provides excellent views across to Medvedgrad, the medieval fortress. This fortified town stands proud on Mali Plazur, a spur of the main Medvednica ridge. The views across the capital from the fortress are extensive.

Park-šuma Susedgrad, on the southwestern edge of Medvednica near Zagreb, marks the starting point of the Medvednica Transversal hiking trail. It features the ruins of Susedgrad Castle, perched on a hill with a sweeping view over the Sava River valley and the city below.

At the extreme southwestern end of Medvednica, on a hill near the confluence of the Krapina river with the Sava, there are the remains of the old town of Susedgrad, around which Podsused (Pod Susedom) later developed.

The tower of the castle contains a super modern museum with digital installations about the history of the castle. Definitely worth going!!

A beautiful place with a wonderful view of Zagreb. The fact that it is within reach of such a big city, I expected crowds of people. It was even more of a surprise that we were actually almost alone at the castle.
