Spiš Castle (Spišský hrad) is located east of Spišské Podhradie. It is one of the largest castle complexes in Central Europe. Its outer walls cover an area of 41,426 m². The ruins of the hilltop castle rise on a 634 m high rocky travertine cone that rises from a plain between the surrounding mountains. In the 12th century a castle was built on the site of the Slavic settlement. The castle became the administrative seat of the Spiš manors. After the castle withstood the Mongol invasion, it was considerably enlarged around the middle of the 14th century. In the 15th century the castle was expanded to its present size (Wikipedia).

The village, consisting of several noble families, got back its historical name Svätá Maria after 1989, Pavlove forms its district. Castle in Velky Kamenec Approximately in the center of the village, not far from the municipal office building, the ruins of a medieval castle protrude on the hilltop, which is relatively easy to reach and was built in the second half of the 13th century and had primarily a watch function. The surviving walls indicate a triangular floor plan, the remains of a tower and two bastions can also be seen, and in the center of the courtyard there is a water cistern carved into the rock. The fortification probably extended to the church below. At the foot of the castle hill there is also a classical one 19th century mansion. It is said that in the 15th century Ján Jiskra from Brandýs and Ján Hunyady signed a peace treaty at the castle. While in the 17th century, one of the owners of the castle from the Soó family took part in a conspiracy against the monarch, which the imperial army crushed in 1672.
