Viewpoint with shelter and great view of the Pacific

Hilina Pali Overlook provides visitors with a incredible view of the Hawaiian coastline and Pacific Ocean. There is a shelter and bathroom here to provide shelter from any storms, althought there is no potable water.

Hilina Pali Road was built from 1933 to 1942. It was another CCC, or Civilian Conservation Corps, project. It is a narrow, one-lane road, so ride carefully. The overlook starts right there in the parking lot. In this area, the last lava flow was over 650 years ago. There are native ‘ōhi‘a trees in the area, and there are also resilient plants that grow on the lava flows.

There is a small covered shelter here that is a great spot to take a break or escape an afternoon shower. From the hut you have a great view of the surrounding EWA Forest Reserve!

This Boy Scout Rest Hut, with a great view and picnic table inside, serves as the return point for many. So you decide whether you want to continue further along the trail until its end or return from here.

Palikū is one of the three cabins located at Haleakalā National Park. There is space for 12 people. Quite handy as rain is quite common in the area. Prior reservation needed.

Cabin that is rentable with a pit toilet and non-potable water. Bring enough to last you or a filter.

Holua is one of the few refuges in the crater. It represents a godsend on your route since you will be able to find a little shade around the cabin, but also a lawn to rest on, which is quite rare inside the volcano.
