Beautiful and rustic ambience.

A memorial stone was erected here in 2023 by the Rennsteigverein 1896 e.V. local group Hainich-Rennstieg.

I have driven past the Betteleiche several times. By chance, because I took a different route, I came across this hut. It's nice and big and has room for lots of guests. There's even a toilet house right next to it. You don't see something like that very often.

Always busy there, it's nice to be able to enjoy your coffee outside

A really nice, renovated mountain hut (former forester's lodge with a basement) in a quiet location in the immediate vicinity of the famous Betteleiche. Here you can easily take a break with a whole hiking group. There are a number of tables and benches that invite you to take a break. Signs also provide good information about the historical background of the hut and the Ihlefeld. We can really recommend this place!

Great hut that is a bit old

A nice rest area at a prominent crossroads (Kammerforster Weg, Rennstieg and old Rennstieg). An information board points out the interesting history of this square. In earlier times there was supposed to be a rest stop for hikers (overnight stays). However, it is said that hikers disappeared again and again and the innkeeper was suspected. Angry people then hung it up on a tree and the hostel fell into disrepair over time.
