Since the late Middle Ages, the Kemenate has transformed into a noble residence for various families, who often provided the Fulda bailiff of Vacha.

The Ecumenical Pilgrimage Route connects the cities of Görlitz in Saxony and Vacha in Thuringia and is part of the famous Way of St. James to Santiago de Compostela. Therefore, Vacha is visited by pilgrims year-round. The Vacha Pilgrim's Hostel is equipped for 12 pilgrims and welcomes their visit. Located in the center of Vacha, at Kirchplatz 8, in the Kemenate, one of the oldest buildings in town, it offers pilgrims a beautiful view over the rooftops of the town at the foot of the Rhön Mountains, directly on the pilgrim's route. Information about the hostel is available Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Rhön Bookstore in Vacha on Widemarkter Straße. During these hours, as well as on holidays and weekends, hostel staff can be reached by phone at (0151) 25804584. The parish requests a donation of €15 per pilgrim to cover the costs of the hostel. It is equipped with a shower/bath, kitchen, common room and two bedrooms.
