Today we start in Gotha; the sky is blue and the sun is hot, and we set off. At the train station, we take Goethe's quote "For one truly does not travel to see and hear the same thing at every stop." with us. After a few steps, we reach Friedenstein Castle and the Ducal Park of Gotha, and at the entrance we encounter the lyre pine, planted around 1770. Here is the entire hike https://youtu.be/FpIJ9CkBCwM It's lovely to walk through the park, in the style of an English garden, overlooking the water, surrounded by mature trees.

The Wechmar dam was built from 1978 to 1981 and was put into operation in 1983. The dam is a industrial water dam with an area of 39 hectares and you can swim in it. To the east is the Röhnberg nature reserve and the 3 Gleichen are also nearby.

In spring and summer, when the water flows along the river, it is beautiful and impressive to look at.

Around the castle in Gotha stretches an English park landscape with lakes and pavilions (like the Tea Castle), gently winding paths and old trees; This garden can be considered the oldest English-style garden on the continent, surpassing that in Dessau. View axes not only include the buildings, but also the surrounding landscape and invite you to take a stroll. On the east side of Friedenstein Castle lies the baroque gardens, which are flanked by orangery buildings. These buildings, which date back to the 18th century, have unique architectural features, such as the central building designed as a state hall. They not only served to house plants in the winter months, but were also festive architecture at baroque garden festivals. (SOURCE:https://www.stiftung-friedenstein.de/schlosspark)
