One of several stations along the Thiemsburg Nature Trail, where you can observe pond life from a protruding platform. Information panels explain the flora and fauna found at the pond.

If you're hiking the Thiemsburg circular trail, we recommend this short but worthwhile detour to the Düsteröder Pond. It's an idyllic spot for a break, and the pond is home to numerous amphibians for observation.

Today we start in Gotha; the sky is blue and the sun is hot, and we set off. At the train station, we take Goethe's quote "For one truly does not travel to see and hear the same thing at every stop." with us. After a few steps, we reach Friedenstein Castle and the Ducal Park of Gotha, and at the entrance we encounter the lyre pine, planted around 1770. This station, like many others, is located directly at Thiemsburg Castle. All along the path around Thiemsburg Castle, there are information boards and puzzles about the flora and fauna.

A wonderful spot to linger and dream. Great lakeside restaurant with reasonable prices and good food. Highly recommended.
