Very beautiful old Lourdes grotto

Lourdes Grotto near Mariahilf. Time seems to have stood still here.

Lourdes grottoes, like this one south of the main portal of St. Blaise Church, are places of reflection and prayer, decorated with statues of the Madonna and the accompanying figure of the young Bernadette. In 1858, the Virgin Mary appeared to the 14-year-old girl in the French city of Lourdes. Many believers still make pilgrimages to the site today; the spring water that flows from the grotto is believed to have healing powers.

It's a lovely place to relax. You can cycle there on the dirt road or walk along a lovely path.

Centuries ago, villagers dug caves/cellars into the compacted layers of sand and used them to cool their supplies/crops. Around 30 of these cellars have now been uncovered, secured and, in some cases, fitted with new doors. All with house number.

Here to the north above the Mösmühle lies a Lourdes grotto tucked away on the wayside towards the oaks.
