Today we went on a night jungle trip in Khao Sok with our family. We were given a flashlight and a guide took care of us. It wasn't difficult. We only saw small animals - snakes, centipedes, spiders, monkeys and moths. But it was still very interesting. Tomorrow we will go on a day trek 😃👍🙋🏼

The name of this national park comes from the combination of Ban Sop, the house of dead bodies, but Khao Sok is full of life and breathtaking nature. It would have been enough for visitors to never know the beauty of the tropical jungle here. However, the local ecosystem was saved by disease and the turbulent events that Thailand went through in the mid-1970s. In 1944, an epidemic hit the Khao Sok area, killing a large part of the local population, the rest then left and the local landscape remained deserted.

Khao Sok National Park covers an area of 739 km2, and together with three other neighboring reserves, the protected area reaches a respectable 3,500 km2. From a tourist perspective, the park is ideally located, easily accessible from both the popular Phuket and the eastern side of the Isthmus of Thailand, where the popular islands of Samui and Phangan lie.

Khao Sok National Park in the Thai province of Surat Thani is a stunning natural paradise covering an area of 739 square kilometers. Established in 1980, the park protects one of the oldest evergreen rainforests in the world, estimated to be over 160 million years old. This ancient landscape is characterized by imposing limestone formations, deep valleys, rushing waterfalls, and mysterious caves. A central highlight of the park is Cheow Lan Lake, a 165-square-kilometer reservoir created by the construction of the Ratchaprapha Dam. The lake is known for its floating bungalows, which offer visitors a unique overnight stay amidst the breathtaking scenery. The park's flora is exceptionally diverse. Particularly noteworthy is the Rafflesia kerrii, one of the largest flowers in the world, which is native to this area. The dense forests also house a variety of tree species, lianas, and bamboo plants, which together form a complex and species-rich ecosystem. The fauna of Khao Sok National Park is also impressive. Among its inhabitants are Asian elephants, Malayan tapirs, bears, gibbons, and a variety of bird species. The world's first amphibious centipede, Scolopendra cataracta, was also discovered here.

Recommended tour to the Ton Chon Fa waterfalls (in November). Take a taxi from Khao Lak to the entrance. Entrance fee 100 Baht/adult. Hike through streams, over partially slippery stones and in the upper part of the jungle. Swimming possible in some areas 👍🏻. Sturdy shoes are recommended in any case: We saw a flip-flop swim "down the stream" and then the owner hobble down the rocky path! 🙄 We didn't want to walk down the road on the way back and took a "path" through rubber and palm oil plantations to Khao Lak/ Baan Tiang market/ Tsunami museum with obstacles (newly built single-family house on the way).

People, we think the entrance fee is definitely justified. We really feel sorry for anyone who flies to Thailand for a lot of money and then complains about the entrance fees for parks being too high. What world do you actually live in... or has the saying "cheap is cool" emptied your brains? The entrance fee/money is used to maintain the park and also to dispose of the waste of all the brainless visitors. We really liked the park and the employees were nice and gave us a lot of information. As the others have already described, up to level 1 it was no problem and then it got more and more difficult... but it also depends on how much it rained in the days before, as some passages from level 2 onwards are a bit tricky when there is a lot of water as it is slippery and you have to walk through the water. Level 2 was the most beautiful in our opinion. beautiful
