The Altenburg Island Zoo is Germany's only zoo located on an island. A bridge takes you to the island zoo.

The Hainbergsee lies at an altitude of 165 m above sea level and has a water surface of 18 hectares. The lake extends to a length of 800 m and a width of 300 m. The deepest point is to the east of the island. The lake there is approx. 16 m deep. The average water depth is between 3 -10 m. The lake was created by flooding the former “Vereinsglück” opencast mine, which was operated until 1900. The lake owes its name to the Hainberg, which is 220 m high. Water sports have been practiced at the lake by various clubs for many decades.

The so-called tea house at Nöbdenitzer Teich is a replica of the historical original. It used to be in the private garden of the manor owners. On the occasion of the Federal Garden Show in 2007, the Nöbdenitz local beautification association rebuilt the historic tea house between the ponds after over 60 years. Today the tea house is a popular rest and picnic area right on the Sprotte adventure trail. From here you have a wonderful view of the pond with island, the former Nöbdenitz moated castle and the church in the background.
