The Pfaffental valley is one of the quieter corners of the Lauter valley and feels almost like a small, hidden world unto itself. A narrow path leads through the wooded valley, accompanied by damp meadows, small springs, and the typical limestone slopes of the Swabian Alb. It is precisely here that one can see how pristine many of the Lauter's side valleys have remained. Away from the main paths, it is often surprisingly peaceful – ideal for anyone who wants to enjoy the landscape without the crowds. With a bit of luck, you might even spot deer or birds of prey using the tranquil forest edges and open meadows. A beautiful stretch to simply slow down for a few minutes and let the special atmosphere of this small Alb valley wash over you.

When I created this highlight in September 2020, it was already clear that the Lauter Valley would be busy on the weekends. It's simply a beautiful valley and a wonderful place to cycle. The fantastic Alb vegetation and the Lauter River are a truly special experience. You're never alone here! Not even during the week – there are people commuting to work in the mornings, too. It's best between Monday and Wednesday. We were here on a Saturday, and obviously, a lot of people were busy, as there weren't many cyclists and other road users on the road. If you're looking for solitude, you should cycle to a valley without a federal highway.

There are some fantastic routes for cyclists here. But the bike path gets very busy on weekends.
