Since the first palace and park complexes were built at the beginning of the 18th century, Ettersburg was a popular hunting and summer residence for the ducal family of Saxony-Weimar and Eisenach. Anna Amalia gathered a literary and artistic circle around her here. The extensive landscape park with its gardens and the "Pückler-Schlag" is a gem of garden art.

This is the forward-looking idea of Toskanaworld CEO & castle owner Klaus Dieter Böhm for the last, largely preserved building complex of the German Order of Knights in Thuringia.

A documentary mention attests that King Otto I donated his royal estate in Liebstedt and Oßmannstedt to the Quedlinburg monastery. This includes the entire population of both villages.

Water castle, rampart castle, low-lying castle The first castle fortress was built around 900 by its Saxon lords as protection against the Slavs and other possible invaders. It is the last, largely preserved building complex of the Teutonic Order in Thuringia.

HistoryEdit The moated castle was probably built by the Counts of Gleichen. In the 14th century, the Counts of Gleichen owned parts of Ollendorf as well as the neighboring estate of Vieselbach. In 1506 the counts sold their Ollendorf property, including the moated castle and the fish farm in the moat, to the city of Erfurt. This appointed an administrator who was supposed to ensure the agricultural use of the property and the security of the fortifications. Although the moated castle increasingly lost its military importance in the 15th and 16th centuries due to the development of artillery, it was manned by city servants during the Thirty Years' War. At that time, the militia system of the surrounding villages was under their commander. In 1609 there was a fire that made it necessary to rebuild the farm buildings and several stables. But the moated castle also underwent ongoing improvements.

The castle appears to have fallen into disrepair.
