You can hear and smell them from afar: the cormorant colony at Nonnensee. At the beginning of the 20th century, this bird was almost extinct; only the granting of protected status in the early 1980s enabled the population to almost fully recover. Since then, it has been regulated by natural predators and competition among itself. High up in the trees, they stack sticks and twigs to form nests, making a lot of noise. Fun fact: To enable the cormorant to reach its diving depth of up to 9 meters, its plumage is not oiled. Therefore, we see the birds in their typical posture, with their wings open, drying their feathers in the sun.

The Wieker Bodden is one of the so-called North Ruegener Bodden. It is a lagoon that is almost entirely surrounded by the island of Rügen. Here you can drive along the water and enjoy the view of the water. The Bodden is also a popular hotspot for water sports enthusiasts. Maybe you can spot some of the colorful stunt kites used by kitesurfers from land.

The Great Jasmunder Bodden is a lagoon and a rim of the southern Baltic Sea in Western Pomerania within the island of Rügen. It belongs to the North Ruegener Bodden. The lagoon is around 14 kilometers long, an average of six kilometers wide and up to seven meters deep. Bird paradise, and sometimes you can spot anglers standing without boats about 10 meters from the shore and fishing. (Source: Wikipedia) Fresh and seawater mixed brackish water.
