These offer a certain landscape-ecological partial replacement for the floodplain that was lost due to the covering. On the middle Elbe, where temporary smoky water occurs particularly frequently, these are habitats for amphibians that are rare elsewhere, such as the fire-bellied toad, the moor frog or the tree frog, as well as refuges for Tadpole Shrimp. The rest of the water that presses through a dyke during high water and emerges on the inner embankment is called Drangwasser, Kuverwasser, Köhrwasser, spring water or sweat water. Lake Gartower is the largest lake in the Lüchow-Dannenberg district. A beautifully situated lake with many recreational opportunities (hiking, cycling, photography, sailing, canoeing, swimming, etc.). There are hiking and cycling trails around the lake. Lake Gartower also offers great motifs for nature and landscape photographers, including many species of birds.

Nice place to relax even if you don't go swimming. For me, as a hobby photographer, there are many beautiful photo motifs at Gartower See.

In our opinion, more beautiful than the Arendsee. You can see a lot more of the lake and there was more to do around it.
