This was our starting point for the circular tour. Amazing from below, it looks even more impressive from above! Looking down gives you a thrill :) The dam is open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. A stamping station is available for tours.

The dam is rather unspectacular. The path along the west side of the reservoir is also not worth the effort. The view of the lake is usually blocked by trees, even in winter, as the trees are so densely packed that the trunks obscure the view.

If you park the car below the dam wall, you should climb on the right side. There you come directly to the hiking temple + the visitor center.

Great destination. There is a parking lot below the dam wall. Without parking fee. There is a lot to explore around the dam on the 20 km circular route. Great on foot or by bike.

The small "detour" from the Fröbelturm to the dam was worth it. An impressive backdrop. A beautiful circular hiking trail from Lichtenhain via Oberweißbach/Froebelturm to the dam and back through the forest on the eastern side. It's about 15 kilometers. PS: The children slept well 😅👍

The large bathing pond is called that, but due to the use by the fishing club, the water quality is such that it is not really inviting for a swim. I was really looking forward to a refreshment and planned a bathing break here, but then I drove on without a bath. If you don't want to swim, but just want to take a break in a nice place, you've come to the right place. Around the ponds, lovingly designed benches invite you to rest.
