Don’t know where to have a walk or a run when in Nittel? Without a doubt go there. The view is nice and there are a lot of small paths to the left or right to explore, including a small (maybe dangerous) cave in the rocks. It’s also a part of the Moselsteig that leads to the forest and more!

Sirzenicher Gorge is beautiful. You have to cross the creek several times. If that is too difficult, you can also choose the easy path nearby.

From the direction of Windhof, the Moselsteig Trail first goes down along the rocks with a view of the high rock walls and then parallel on a narrow path back above the rocks. Very nice section of the trail. We walked the piece in January afternoon in the sunshine. A pleasure, with great views and lots of sun! The upper path can be slippery and muddy depending on the weather.

Hinkelsgret Place of refuge for the Mannebachers and Kümmerner during the Thirty Years' War (1618-1648). The name "Hinkel" comes from the term "Henkel", a handle for a vessel that was used to transport household items and food into the ravine/Gret in case of danger from the approaching Swedish troops. The area around Mannebach only became involved in the war late - around 1630. Source: Text information board of the Mannebach local community

Michelslay Shell limestone - scaffolding of the landscape. In the Moselle region, the landscape is shaped by the shell limestone, which was formed as a marine deposit around 200 to 240 million years ago. The lower Syrtal has deepened into the middle layers of Muschelkalk. The slopes are characterized by the steep rock walls of the Upper Muschelkalk. Rock walls and rubble heaps The upper shell limestone - also called main shell limestone - is made up of dolomite rock with layers of marl between them. This rock is broken up into large blocks by a system of fissures, which rest on the soft layers of marl gypsum of the middle mussel limestone. Changes in temperature and the effects of frost cause the blocks to break off. The broken rock masses form rubble heaps at the foot of the rock walls, which extend into the lower slopes of the Syrtal. Soils of the Upper Muschelkalk: stony-clayey brown soils Shallow brown soils have developed on the dolomite rock of the Upper Muschelkalk. Due to the high skeletal content, they store water poorly and dry out quickly. The high proportion of lime ensures a good supply of nutrients. With sufficient water supply, these brown earths are fertile soils. The influence of soil water on plant growth can be clearly seen in different slopes: soils in north and east exposed areas are well supplied with water, the lush ravine forest thrives. Soils in south-facing locations are dry, the stumpy oak forest grows here.

Without exception, the hike leads through the “Manternacher Fiels” nature reserve. Rare plants grow in the cool, shady forest. The huge layer of rock on the Michelslay and the passage through the narrow Kerbtal of the Schlammbach stream are particularly impressive. In between there are extraordinary views and a vineyard in the middle of the forest. The nature conservation center "A Wiewesch" is located in a former farmhouse in Manternach.

Sometimes you look down at the creek from relatively high up, sometimes you get to the water. Definitely recommendable way.
