At the current location of the Hieberg Tower, there used to be a Wingertshäuschen made of field stones to protect against bad weather. A new shelter was built on the old foundations in the 1960s. The Hieberg tower was created as a result of later construction work.

In June 2022 this hut was locked and only 2 benches were in front of it. However, on the other side of the Selz there is the Vinomaten from Weingut Schuck, which seems to be available all year round.

Interesting display board in this regard at two different points on the Hiwweltour. The link hidden behind the QR code no longer exists, but you can easily find it on the Internet. Brief summary: Before and during the First World War, one of the most important fortresses in the western part of the German Empire was built in Mainz and Rheinhessen in the greatest secrecy. This stretched from Ingelheim via Mainz to Nierstein and led along many Rhenish-Hessian towns. The fortress consisted of 14 large forts and more than 350 modern fortifications, storage areas, waterworks, telecommunications stations and its own railway network and cog railway. After the First World War, the fortress was razed and blown up. (Drafting usually refers to the demolition of castles or fortifications by the losing party in a military conflict. It is carried out by removing, leveling, blasting or tearing down. The system was rarely completely destroyed.)

Two memorial plaques along the “Hiwweltour Bismarck Tower” remind of the history of the Gau-Algesheimer Kopf and the Westerberg during the First World War. The infantry positions still preserved from this time are among the very little preserved fortresses of their kind in Germany.

Always worth a visit - but it's a shame that the tower is more of a garbage dump inside and there is graffiti on the walls everywhere.

Wonderful rest area with a great view and an informative board that describes the visible destinations. The refuge was donated to the town of Gau-Algesheim in 1956 by the Avenarius family. At the beginning of March 2001 the hut was set on fire, but thanks to donations from the population it was rebuilt in May 2002 ",

The refuge got its name GAGA from the Avenarius brothers from Gau-Algesheim, who founded a chemical factory in the village in 1869. The hut is located on Richardshöhe, a striking vantage point on the western slope of the Westerberg with a view of the Rhine and Nahe.
