The fire pond on the Mühlenbach stream lies idyllically in the Bückeberg hills and is a tranquil, natural spot amidst the wooded hills. Fed by the Mühlenbach, the pond blends harmoniously into its surroundings and is now an integral part of the landscape of this region. Surrounded by trees and gentle hills, it invites hikers and walkers to take a short break and offers a peaceful place to enjoy nature. The pond owes its name to its original function as a water reservoir for firefighting. In times before centralized water supplies, such fire ponds were of great importance, especially in heavily forested areas. They provided readily available water for firefighting in emergencies, thus contributing to the protection of the surrounding villages and forests. Today, the fire pond is primarily of ecological and scenic significance. It provides habitat for amphibians, insects, and waterfowl and contributes to the diversity of flora and fauna in the Bückeberg hills. At the same time, it is a quiet meeting point in the region's network of hiking trails and uniquely combines nature, history and recreation in one of the most beautiful forest landscapes of the Schaumburg region.

The lake landscape near Hävern is a beautiful nature reserve in the natural area of the Wesertal between the districts of Hävern and Großenheerse in the town of Petershagen. The area extends over 104 hectares and is part of the EC bird sanctuary "Weseraue". The former gravel ponds are now biotopes for water birds and offer a picturesque backdrop for walks and exploration.

The forest area of the Loccum Monastery (approx. 650 ha) is located about ten kilometers west of Lake Steinhude and comprises six sub-areas (forest locations) of different sizes. The majority are located in Lower Saxony (Nienburg district), a smaller part belongs to North Rhine-Westphalia (Minden-Lübbecke district). The lake landscape around Hävern is fascinating. Over the years, a unique wet biotope with an unbelievable variety of flora and fauna has emerged from the quarry ponds of yesteryear. And right in the middle is the pretty Weser village of Hävern with well-kept farms, lively cultural life and many storks.

The Klosterforst Sundern is a forest area south of the Loccum monastery. Several, mostly natural, forest paths or paths lead through it. In addition to a herd of cattle and the Luccaburg in the south, the water management of the Cistercians is particularly noteworthy and can still be experienced. The water of the Fulde was used in a clever way via ditches and dams. For example, there are water crossings at different heights to feed water reserves. For the monastery, the Cistercians sometimes even laid an underground sewage system, as well as different ditches to keep service water separate from waste water. The bridal pond and the baking pond are still preserved as large ponds. The Backteich is higher than the level of the parallel Fulde.
