In the distance, slightly to the left of the cathedral, in the middle of the small broad area, you can see Gull Island. It is also called Seagull Mountain or, in Danish, Mågeøen, and is only 3-5 meters high. It is a bird sanctuary. It is monitored and maintained by the so-called Seagull King. Around 1115, there was also a castle on the island, from which some bricks and other remnants were washed away during the great flood of 2023.

Indeed a beautiful view of the Schlei, but we had to move on quickly as there were a lot of cars driving along the Gottorfer Damm.

When looking over the Schlei, the St. Petri Cathedral of Schleswig can always be seen. Beautiful bike and hiking trails along the Schlei.

Here is a very nice place to take a break from your hike, a beautiful large meadow and a bench overlooking the lake invite you to linger.

As already described, an idyllic place on a pond that invites you to linger on a bench overlooking the lake. The pond can be walked on all around and you always have a different view of the lake and the surrounding area from different perspectives!
