A magnificent, well-maintained palace called Königswart. Renovated in 2001, the building was originally built in 1690 and remodeled in the Empire style for Prince Metternich in the 1930s. Today, it houses a museum and a café. A hotel and restaurant have been built in the adjacent buildings.

Cheb Castle is unique among Bohemian castles. The complex on a rocky spur above the Eger is the only Hohenstaufen imperial palace on Czech soil. The castle is shrouded in history and legend and numerous significant events are associated with its history. Emperor Friedrich Barbarossa visited the castle repeatedly, held imperial days here and even stayed here shortly before his third crusade, during which he unexpectedly died. Every real castle also has its ghost, and Cheb Castle is no different: Wallenstein's last loyal followers, who were murdered here on the evening of February 25, 1634, have been dying here in desperation at night for centuries. The castle is only open from November to March on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the rest of the year every day except Mondays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and in June, July and August until 6 p.m.
