The Christmas market, which is set up around the castle for a weekend in December, is also particularly beautiful.

2월 15, 2026, Fuggerschloss Nordendorf

Today's Fugger Castle, with its castle gardens, is the remaining vestige of a once much larger castle complex and is located in the heart of the village of Nordendorf. The complex became the seat of power for the Fugger-Nordendorf line of the Fugger family in the 16th century and shaped the village's history for centuries. After a fire in the 1860s, the former upper castle was largely demolished. Parts of the west wing, including the tower and chapel, as well as the gatehouse of the south wing, have been preserved. In the castle park, a Renaissance fountain with a coat of arms commemorates the site's aristocratic past. Today, the castle is privately owned and not open to the public, but its historical significance as a landmark of the village is clearly visible from the outside. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fuggerschloss_Nordendorf

The castle today dates back to the Middle Ages. The fortified farm was first mentioned in 1329. The residential tower, in which the chapel was established in 1868, still bears witness to this period. More on the history: https://www.schloss-nordendorf.de/index.php/geschichte

"Historic castle ruins on the "Schlossberg" on the northern edge of the village of Graisbach (municipality of Marxheim). The castle was presumably built by the "Edle von Graisbach" as a ministerial castle for the Counts of Lechsgmünd. After the counts' ancestral seat in "Lechsgmünd" was destroyed by Regensburg merchants in 1248, the counts resettled in Graisbach. From then on, they called themselves Counts of Lechsgmünd-Graisbach. The castle was further expanded over the centuries, partially destroyed and rebuilt in the 15th century. In the 18th century, the castle was abandoned and used as a quarry. Stones from the castle were used as building material in the region, for example, for the Danube bridge in Neuburg. Today, only remnants of the castle complex (Pallas, keep, curtain wall, northwest tower, fountain market) can be visited. Of particular note is the well-preserved Romanesque castle chapel of St. Pankratius with its reliefs on the north portal and remnants of the historic wall paintings." The ducal castle in the northeast corner of the city is a late Gothic building from the 15th century. The Wittelsbach Duke Stefan II began it after the destruction of the castle previously located in the southeastern part of the city. His son, Duke Ludwig the Bearded of Bavaria-Ingolstadt, completed it after 1421. The foundations of a round tower can be seen next to today's entrance. It lost the character of a moated castle with a drawbridge over a ditch in 1960 when the ditch was buried.

The baroque palace of the Kaisheim abbots lies above the Danube valley and was built by the Cistercians under Abbot Elias Götz. The associated castle church of St. Blasius is also worth seeing. Viewings are possible by appointment as part of guided tours.

I saw it, stopped and took a picture. Unfortunately I didn't know that it was a Fugger castle. There is no sign anywhere to indicate this. Unfortunately. Is probably privately owned.
